Intentional disobedience - When God Stops Speaking and Starts Arranging
Intentional disobedience is something that often cannot be corrected by words—not advice, not warnings, not even well-rehearsed script. It usually takes a personal encounter to bring change.
When someone willingly decides to behave a certain way, no amount of talking can move them. Friends, family, mentors no one’s words really land anywhere.
The Bible gives us a clear picture of this through Jonah.
Jonah didn’t misunderstand God.
He didn’t hesitate.
He intentionally disobeyed…
God told him to go to Nineveh…,Jonah made a conscious decision to run in the opposite direction to Tarshish.
And something interesting happens here.
When Jonah disobeyed., God didn’t try to reason with him
There was no argument.
No long conversation.
No convincing.
It’s almost as if God knew, “He has already decided. Talking won’t change his mind.”
Think about it in a very human way.
When parents know their child is intentionally ignoring instructions and disobeying, they sometimes choose to stop talking for a while and they go quiet but not without concern or to let the child be as he or she is.
The child is still on their radar.
They may ask siblings about them.
Check their bags.
Look into their room.
Observe their movements quietly.
Not because they don’t care but because they know words won’t work right now.
That’s exactly what we see with God and Jonah.
God knew Jonah’s stubborn heart. So instead of speaking directly to him, God began to speak to everything around him.
He spoke to the sea and the sea became violent.
He spoke to the wind and it grew stronger.
He stirred questions in the sailor's minds.
He prepared a fish before Jonah was even thrown into the water.
Everything was already arranged.
Only after Jonah was swallowed, alone, powerless, and fully aware only then did Jonah speak.
And only then did God respond not to Jonah
Later…, God spoke to the fish and it released him exactly where he was supposed to go in the first place.
What Jonah avoided, God patiently walked him back to.
This shows us something deeply personal
When disobedience is intentional, God’s silence is not absence.
It's a strategy.
God knows our mindset.
He knows when words won’t work.
So He begins to speak to our environment.
To people around us.
To situations
To closed doors and unexpected disruptions.
To delays, pauses, and interruptions.
Sometimes God doesn’t speak louder.
He speaks beyond words.
And eventually, we realise
Even in silence, He was guiding everything for our good.
Hope this helps and I’d really like to know how this speaks to you.

Just open your Bible, take your time with it, and let it talk to you.
It’s usually in those quiet, personal moments that He says the most.
