When Faith Sinks but Hope Stays
I often wondered about this incident from the Bible...,
Matthew 14:22–33
This is the full account of Jesus walking on water and Peter stepping out, sinking, and being saved...
Lord Jesus could’ve walked on water while the disciples were safely on the shore or would have accompanied with them. But why did He choose to appear suddenly in the middle of the storm?
Did Lord Jesus wanted to frighten his disciples seriously?
These questions led me to something beautiful...
The disciples were frightened at first. But once they realised it was Lord Jesus, something different happened. While the other's stayed in the boat only Peter desired to walk on the water as Jesus did.
And that’s where the story unfolds...
In the Bible ,there is an incident where Lord Jesus walked on water. When Peter saw this, he asked Jesus to call him to walk on the water as well—and Jesus did.Peter stepped out in faith and walked on the water, but soon fear overtook him, and he began to sink.He cried out to Jesus for help, and Jesus immediately reached out and saved him.Yet even if Peter had continued to fear, the boat was still there, waiting for him.
{note: It was windy yet boat was still there till peter and Jesus got inside the boat...like entire unstable sea, waves and strong wind was in God's control.}
Lord Jesus didn't scold or hate him for him drowning because of his little and weak faith but Jesus, Our God...
- Celebrates bold faith (Peter stepping out).
- Rescues failing faith (Jesus lifting him).
- Provides backup grace (the boat).
God always installs hope for us in advance.
Jesus allowed Peter to step out, saved him when faith wavered, and ensured a place of return existed.
Even when faith begins to break down, hope does not disappear.
There was still a boat waiting for Peter.
1 Corinthians:10:13
God is faithful,
He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear But when you are tempted,He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it...
- Sometimes hope looks miraculous (walking on water).
- Sometimes hope looks merciful (a hand pulling you up).
- And sometimes hope looks practical and quiet (a boat nearby).
Just as there was a boat waiting for Peter.
For us that boat may be the church.
It may be community, friends, Job or family.
Sometimes, that boat is the strength God has already placed within us...
So my questions were amazingly answered.., Jesus did not come to frighten the disciples, He came to show them that fear, faith, failure, rescue and hope can all exist in the same storm and still end in worship.
Hope is the place where God teaches us to build more faith for the next walk :)
God invites us to step-out in faith, rescues us when fear rises, and quietly makes sure there is still a place to return to.
